PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is India's ambitious initiative to power one crore households with rooftop solar panels, offering up to 300 units of free electricity per month. With a whopping budget of ₹75,021 crore and implementation set through 2026–27, this scheme is set to redefine households’ energy independence while advancing India’s renewable energy goals.
Households are eligible for significant subsidies—60% subsidy for systems up to 2 kW, and 40% for systems between 2–3 kW, capped at 3 kW (e.g., ₹30,000 for 1 kW; ₹78,000 for 3 kW). Additionally, collateral-free loans at concessional interest rates (~7%) are available to ease affordability.
